According to news reports today, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), said he will likely vote against a budget deal to cut about $38 billion from federal spending levels because the compromise bill does not eliminate subsidies for Planned Parenthood.
Why do the Republicans continue to let social issues trump economic ones?
In no way, shape or form will "eliminating subsidies for Planned Parenthood" do anything more than punish the women who rely on the agency for health care.

The issue has nothing to do with an attempt to cut family planning services. It has to do with Planned Parenthood wanting to keep its monopoly on government family planning contracts. It doesn't want competition. That's what this is all about.
The fact is PP does abortions and is in fact the largest abortion provider in the country. A strong majority of people don't want their tax dollars going for that. Money is fungible. Sending PP millions of dollars for family planning simply frees up resources for PP to divert to abortion.
Would PP object to other companies stepping in and doing what they do sans abortion? You bet. PP runs a very profitable business because of the monopoly that government has bestowed on the company.

PP is a drop in the bucket of the $38 billion in spending cuts proposed.
And, let me repeat: abortion is a SOCIAL issue, not a budgetary one.
Abortion is legal, Paul.
