Can Somebody Who Follows the Colts...

...explain to this Indianapolis Observer just why the team sent Peyton Manning away?

"Manning Magnificent in Denver Debut".

And we're surprised, why?

Because Manning is at the end of his career, hadn't played in over a year and had had four surgeries on his neck. Plus the team was in a rebuilding mode and had a chance to get the best quarterback available in a draft for the last 20 years. The Colts reallyhad no choice.

There were a few reasons -

1) Uncertainty about physical rehabilitation from the nerve/spine thing that kept him out last year. Plus he's 36 years old. The rehab was not a sure thing.

2) Two excellent QB's in the draft, Luck and Griffin.

3) Under the new labor agreement this year, rookies can't make big money - so the Colts don't have to pay Luck nearly what they would have paid Peyton.

4) Colts would have had to pay Peyton a $20 million bonus if he had stayed on the roster this past Spring.
